Zachary (Zach) McKain Obituary

Zachary McKain, lovingly known as “Zach,” left our world on January 16, 2024, at the age of 36. Born on May 7, 1987, to Carla de Vries and Doug McKain in Kokomo, Indiana, Zach’s zest for life and mischievous spirit brought smiles to the faces of all who knew him.

Zach graduated High School with the class of 2006 at North Miami High School in Denver, Indiana. Following High School, his journey took him through various endeavors, including his time serving as a Lieutenant, just completing 17 years in the U.S. Navy. But it was his role as a devoted father that truly defined him. Spending time with his daughters, Gabriella E. McKain and Lucy N. McKain, filled his days with joy and purpose.

Zach’s eclectic taste in music was unrivaled, spanning across a wide variety of genres. His curious nature made him an eternal learner, always seeking to expand his knowledge and explore new horizons. Whether he was skateboarding through the streets or causing chaos with his magnetic personality, Zach lived life on his own terms.

With a bachelor’s degree in psychology under his belt, working toward his masters, Zach possessed a deep understanding of the human mind and had a way of connecting with others on a profound level. His empathetic nature and genuine care for those around him left an indelible mark on their lives.

Zach was predeceased in his life by his Grandparents Pat and Don McKain, his grandfather Johan de Vries and uncle, Michael de Vries.

Survived by his adoring daughters, Gabriella and Lucy McKain, and their mother Brandie McKain, Zach is also mourned by his parents, Carla de Vries-See and Terry Wray, and his beloved siblings, Andrew “Andy” de Vries and his wife Bethany, & Madelyn See and her fiancé Devin Bandow. He also leaves his grandmother Carole de Vries, his cherished nieces and nephews – Connor, Christian, Chesney, and Chandler “Bing.” His favorite aunts and uncles; Patty, Dan, Dondi, Dameon, Sonja, Adam, Tony, Jenny, Gina, Dana, and Jessica. In-laws Ben and Tya Moore also grieve his loss, along with his father, Doug McKain, and countless extended family members, Jordan Wray, Taylor Wray and friends. And lastly his fur baby, Admiral.

Zach’s departure leaves a void in the lives of those who loved him. His infectious energy, remarkable sense of humor, and unwavering love will forever be remembered. May his spirit continue to inspire us all to live life fearlessly, embrace our passions, and find joy in every moment.
