John Rockenbaugh Obituary

John David Rockenbaugh, 69, of Peru, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, at Saint Vincent Hospital 1:35AM on May 25th, 2018.

He was born on June 24th 1948 in Peru, Indiana to Sherll and Lily Rae White Rockenbaugh. John attended Erie Elementary School and graduated from Peru High School in 1966.  He joined the United States Army upon graduation and later served in the National Guard and worked for about 3 years for the Railroad.

John married Joyce Ann Gochenour Walker on Sep 2, 1995. He worked on the family farm all his life, and continued by managing the family farm after his father’s passing.  Farming was a great passion of his as well as mushroom hunting and playing poker. He was retired from Square D after 35 years in 2005.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Peru Maennerchor, Eagles and a friend to many.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one infant brother.  John is survived by his wife, Joyce, who he loved very much and adored children, Rana (Bill) Sturgill, Peru; Jami (Brian) Edwards, Peru; Betsy (Jason) Curtis, Bourbonnais, IL and Amy (Jerry) Black of Peru.  He was a wonderful grandfather to his grandchildren, Ariel Edwards, Kane Rockenbaugh, Madison Edwards, Peyton Sturgill, Caleb Rockenbaugh, Blake Edwards, Trey Sturgill, Libbey Edwards, Brady Edwards, Matthew Black, Carson Curtis, Hayden Black and Caden Curtis.  John was also able to experience the gift of 2 beautiful great-grandchildren, Sierra Culp and Wyatt Worden.  He is also survived by his brothers, Jim (Mary) Rockenbaugh, Rochester; Darl (Pam) Rockenbaugh, Peru; Bob Rockenbaugh, Montana; nephew Mark Rockenbaugh and many other nephews and nieces.  The mothers of his three daughters also survive, Carol Robison Rockenbaugh and Pamela Bankston Clark.

Services will be held at Riverview Funeral Home at 421 West Canal Street, Peru, Indiana.  Visitation is Thursday, May 31st from 3:30 to 7 PM and Funeral Friday, June 1st at 11am.

His family paid this tribute to him- “John was a hardworking genuine man, with a heart that could be seen in his eyes, he will be sorely missed.”
