Peru

Meribeth (Hammond) Wright, 78, of Peru, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Ascension St. Vincent in Carmel. Meribeth was born on December 19, 1946, in Peru, Indiana, to the late William and Rosemary (Coon) Hammond.

Meribeth attended Harrodsburg High School and later went on to graduate from Western Kentucky University. Meribeth worked as a social worker for the Miami County Division of Family Resources for several years before eventually retiring.

In her free time, Meribeth was a devoted member of the Main Street United Methodist Church and served in the philanthropic sorority Psi Iota Xi chapter in Peru. She was an avid reader and loved to collect angels. She enjoyed taking art lessons and had a passion for the Frank Lloyd Wright Home & Studio, where she fell in love with his architecture, especially Fallingwater. She also enjoyed being outdoors where she would tend to her flowers and watch the birds. Her most cherished past time was spent with her friends and family.

Meribeth is survived by her children; Heidi Wright, Nicole (Bruce) Anderson, Michael (Marie) Wright, friend, and caregiver for over 10 years; Lori Matthews, a brother; William (Charlotte) Hammond, 6 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Helaina Rose Hawkins and her parents William and Rosemary Hammond.

A memorial service honoring the life of Meribeth will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at Main Street United Methodist Church, 81 W Main St, Peru, beginning at 12 noon, with Reverend Dr. Samuel Odubena, and Pastor Lauren Hall officiating. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 10 am at the church.

Meribeth often said, "what a wonderful world!", and she honored these words through her final act of generosity as an organ donor.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Main Street United Methodist Church and the Scratching Post.
