Mary Jane Guyer, 94, of Peru, Indiana, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, October 3, 2025. She was a devoted and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
She was born at home in Cass County, Indiana on June 28, 1931 to Eunice (Stafford) Long and Joseph Long. Her family later moved to Peru where she graduated from Peru High School in 1949. It was there she met Harvey Guyer, whom she wed on October 14, 1950. Their union was blessed with three children – Vicki Lynn, Joseph, and Andrew.
Over the years, she completed some medical training and worked for a time as a nurse’s aide at Duke’s Memorial Hospital. She served at church teaching Sunday School classes and working in the nursery. Caring for others was a natural outpouring of her kindhearted spirit.
She is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Harvey, her daughter, Vicki Mansfield, and her brother, Robert Long. She is survived by her two sons, Joseph (Rebecca) Guyer and Andrew (Deborah) Guyer, son-in-law Alan Mansfield, as well as 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Her Christian witness, unassuming nature, and love for her family and friends will continue to inspire and encourage us now that she has been called home.
A funeral service honoring the life of Mary will be held on Tuesday, October 7th, 2025, beginning at 12 noon, with Pastor Allen Kincaid officiating, located at Riverview Funeral Home, 421 West Canal Street, Peru. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 11 am. A private family burial will follow at Metzger Cemetery, rural Peru.
