Jeffrey Michael Lorenc, 66 (April 20th, 1959- April 6th, 2026) passed away unexpectedly in the early hours of April 6th, 2026. Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Jeff was the son of Norma (McGookin) Lorenc and Eugene Lorenc. From a young age, he had a deep curiosity about the world, especially history and geography, with a strong passion for World War II. A National Merit Scholar at Peru High school, Jeff graduated in ’77, earning a full ride opportunity to any Ivy League university in the United States. Instead, he chose a different path, the US Navy. Joining in 1978, running an Oxygen Generator for the entire vessel, a role of quiet importance. Among his travels, Hawaii and Columbia remained his favorite places to dock his nuclear sub, USS Jefferson.

After his service, Jeff briefly lived in South Carolina before reluctantly returning to Indiana. In 1988, he began a long career at Chrysler, where he worked until his retirement in April 2018. He immediately moved to downtown Indianapolis, where he enjoyed half of his retirement hosting a lot of family and friends before moving in with his son in 2022, where he spent his final 4 years. Jeff and his son shared a special bond living together on and off throughout Nick’s adult life, and continuously for the last 4 years. They were best friends, often spending time watching hockey, Rick n Morty, and Adventure Time or just gaming in separate rooms with frequent chats in between. Their companionship was genuine, and deeply meaningful.

Jeff was a man who found joy in the little things. He loved making people smile, always ready with a story or perfectly timed Family Guy and The Office references. He appreciated nature in its quietest forms, feeding squirrels, sitting outside in his lawn chair, fully present in the moment. He had a fascination with the origin of stories and songs. Always ready to teach anybody willing to listen. Jeff was eager to share music and meaningful moments with others.

His love language was simple but thoughtful, making sure that everyone had their favorite snacks. He often checked in on friends and family, always thinking of others. He also enjoyed horse betting and found companionship in his beloved cat “Kitty”, whom he cared for deeply.

He is survived by his son; Nick Lorenc, daughter in law; Alicia Moore, grandchildren; Aubreyana Hoeppner, Irelynn Webb, Sisters; Patti Layer and Janice Sparks, brother-in-law Gary Layer, Nieces and nephews; Courtney Sparks, Tony and Brittany Patterson, Kelli Ritchie, Tara and Alex Barone, Jami Patterson, Ziek Martin, Alana Martin, Vienna Ritchie, Taylor Zimmerman and Azalea Patterson; special friends; Ann Willis, Mary Jo Tully, and Brenda Carter.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jovana Masters, who made sure Jeff had home cooked Italian meals that often fed him for days. They had weekly plans unless the weather was bad. He would always brag about their friendship and the meals they had planned out, and that brought him joy. Per Jeff’s wishes, no formal services will be held.
