Gene A. Jones

Gene A. Jones, 61, of Peru, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Gene was born on March 15, 1964, in Peru, to the late Larry and Marilyn (Lawson) Jones.

Gene married the love of his life Lisa Jones, who preceded him in death on March 10, 2020. They celebrated over 23 years together.

A graduate from Peru High School, Gene later went on to work as a mechanic most of his life. Gene also worked at Logansport State Hospital for several years before eventually retiring.

Gene was honored to be a heart and a kidney transplant recipient at the young age of 36. Gene always felt passionaries about the quality of care and the life saving measures that St. Vincent gave to him. He forever cherished the team that saved his life which led to his passion for organ donation.

In his free time Gene had a passion for playing darts, bowling, and being a member of the Disc Golf club in Peru. He also enjoyed attending car shows and rooting on Notre Dame. His most cherished past time was spent with his loving family.

Surviving Gene include a son; Gage Jones, stepdaughter; Lindsay Barnes, sister-in- laws; Romona Gutzin, Lorraine (Mike) Binkerd, Christy Jones, nieces; Natalie (TJ) Pruitt, Celeste Krichgessner, Victoria Dunno, mother-in-law; Joyce Case, grandchildren; Aubree Barnes, Kyndle Barnes, and several aunts and uncles.

Gene was preceded in death by his loving wife; Lisa Jones, sister; Jane Jones, brother; Jim Jones, and Father-in-law; Herman Case.

A funeral service honoring the life of Gene will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 1 pm, with Pastor Kyle Schnitz officiating, located at Riverview Funeral Home, 421 West Canal Street, Peru. Friends may visit with the family from 11 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Peru.

Memorial contributions may be made in Gene’s memory to either Community Church of Mexico, or to Indiana Donor Network.
