Dorothy Virginia (Ballinger) Hough

Dorothy Virginia (Ballinger) Hough, 95, of Peru, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 26, 2026, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana.

Dorothy was born on December 1, 1930, in Charlotte, North Carolina, to the late Louie “Pat” and Dolia (McKinley) Ballinger. Dorothy married the love of her life, Robert Hough, on September 16, 1950. They were blessed with over 40 years of marriage when Robert passed on February 15, 1993.

Dorothy graduated from Thomasboro High School (Charlotte, NC) in June 1949. Dorothy had several jobs throughout her life, finally retiring as a bookkeeper at Thermogas (now Ferrellgas) in Peru.

 A passionate cook and baker, Dorothy was famous for her pound cake, mashed potatoes, and banana pudding. She enjoyed planning holiday parties and used any excuse to share meals with her friends and family. She enjoyed meeting new people, and her favorite pastime was practicing the subtle art of, as she called it, “visiting” with friends and family, especially her grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by sons; Chuck and Joe Hough, daughter-in-law; Katrina Hough, sisters; Betty Jean Muse and Alma Horne, 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, plus several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by son; Howard Hough, daughter-in-law; Karen Hough, and sister; Peggy Gilliland.

A funeral service honoring the life of Dorothy will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, February 7th, 2026, at Parkview United Methodist Church, 1785 SR 19, Peru, IN, with Pastor John Mansur officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 11 AM until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Ever Rest Memorial Park in Logansport.
