Dorothy Virginia (Ballinger) Hough, 95, of Peru, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 26, 2026, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana. Dorothy was born on December 1, 1930, in Charlotte, North Carolina, to the late Pat and Dolia (McKinley) Ballinger.
Dorothy married the love of her life; Robert Hough who preceded her in death on February 15, 1993. They were blessed with over 40 years of marriage.
Dorothy graduated from Thomasboro High School in North Carolina. Dorothy had several jobs throughout her life. She had worked at Therma Gas as a bookkeeper for several years before eventually retiring.
In her free time Dorothy had a passion for cooking and baking, especially making her famous pound cake. She loved to share meals with her friends and family. She enjoyed planning parties and holidays. She never met a stranger and enjoyed meeting new people. Her most cherished past time was spent with her family, and especially her grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her children; Joe Hough, Chuck Hough, sisters; Betty Jean, Alma Horn, 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Dorothy in death by a son; Howard Hough, and a sister; Peggy Gilliland.
A funeral service honoring the life of Dorothy will be held on Saturday, 1p.m., February 7th, 2026, located at Parkview United Methodist Church in Peru, 1785 SR 19, Peru, IN, With Pastor John Mansur officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 11 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Everest Memorial Park in Logansport.
