Cheryl Louisa Whittenberger

Cheryl Louisa (Conklin) Whittenberger, 77, of Peru passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025. Cheryl was born September 15, 1948 in Logansport, IN to the late Leroy Conklin and Dorothy Bakehorn. Cheryl married the love of her life Gene Whittenberger and he proceeded her in death in February after 57 years of marriage.

Cheryl is survived by her brothers; Dennis Conklin, Greg Conklin, Basil Bakehorn, Mike Bakehorn, sisters; Vicki (Bakehorn) Gilsinger, grandchildren; Travis Adkins, and her friends; Jane Marcum, Sue Phillips, Cheryl Mallow, and Barb Oaks.

After graduation, Cheryl went on to earn her Associate’s degree from Wright Beauty College. She also worked at Kroger for several years. In her free time, Cheryl loved spending time with her extended family and with her many friends, who felt like family to her.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her husband Gene, daughter; Tina Adkins, brothers; Ronald Conklin, Ray Bakehorn, Donald Bakehorn, Dale Bakehorn, sisters; Harriet Cooper, and Nancy.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, beginning at 4pm until 7pm, located at Riverview Funeral Home, 421 West Canal Street, Peru. A private family burial honoring the life of Cheryl will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Mexico Cemetery.
