Cheryl Kay Trexler

Cheryl Kay Trexler, 77, of Peru, passed away on August 6, 2026, at her home.

She was born on September 5, 1948, in Peru, Indiana, to the late George Eugene Rockwell and Esther Mae (Bowman) Rockwell.

Cheryl was a proud 1967 graduate of Peru High School, where she enjoyed being a majorette during her high school years.

For many years, Cheryl devoted herself to raising her daughters and caring for her family. As her daughters grew older, she entered the workforce at a local balloon shop, where her creativity and love of people eventually led her to become a business owner. From 1989 to 1996, Cheryl proudly owned and operated Balloons-R-Us in Peru, Indiana. In March 1993, she began what would become a 20-year career as a customer service representative with American Stationery. Even as she transitioned into her long-term career there, she continued to own and operate Balloons-R-Us through its final years on West Main Street before closing the storefront in 1996. After retiring from American Stationery, Cheryl’s desire to stay connected with and give back to her community led her to volunteer at Dukes Memorial Hospital, where she proudly served as a Pink Lady.

Cheryl never knew a stranger and had a gift for making friends wherever she went. Her warm smile, kind heart, and genuine interest in others made everyone feel welcome and valued. She touched countless lives with her friendship and leaves behind a circle of people who were truly blessed to know her.

She was an avid IU basketball fan, and those who knew Cheryl knew that game time was sacred—calls, visits, and plans were best saved until after the final buzzer. She also enjoyed playing cards with her longtime best friend. Above all, Cheryl treasured time spent with her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Being surrounded by her family brought her tremendous joy, and the memories they created together held a special place in her heart.

Survivors include her daughters, Allison (Nathan) Campbell and Julie Bowman; brothers, Terry (Robin) Rockwell, Dale (Helen) Rockwell, Steven (Linda) Rockwell, and Richard (Toni Vinson) Rockwell; sister, Sylvia (Richard) Holley; grandchildren, Braxton (Kim) Campbell, Devin (Carissa) Campbell, Cameron Campbell, and Rylee Bowman; great-grandchildren, Clayton, Liliana, and Avery; and her longtime best friend, Cheryl Lancaster.

Family and friends will gather at a later date to celebrate Cheryl’s life and the many memories she leaves behind. Celebration of Life details will be shared once arrangements are finalized.
