Bernard “Barney” Honkomp, 85 of Peru passed away on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the VA Northern Indiana Healthcare Center in Ft. Wayne.
Born on August 29, 1940, in Gary, Indiana he was the son of the late Bernard Honkomp and Mary (Barnett) Norris.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
On September 1, 1979 he married Reba J. Powell, she survives.
Barney retired from Miami Trucking Company. He was a member of the Eagles, Moose and the American Legion. Barney enjoyed fishing, hunting and going to auctions.
Survivors include his wife, Reba Honkomp, daughters, Toni Vinson, Brenda (Honkomp) Harber, Lynn Leffler, Trudy Otto and Barbara Saros, brother, Raymond Norris, sister, Pam Ege and his beloved dog, Bo, grandchildren; Tara, Dusty, Tya, Joseph, Stephanie, Joshua, Kristy, Jake, Mike, Casey, Shemberly, Martha, Landen, Stephanie, numerous great grandchildren including Trevor Leffler whom he taught to be as ornery as he was.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Michele Heath; granddaughter, Kinzei Heath.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 23, 2026, at Riverview Funeral Home with Pastor Rod Correll officiating.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Burial with military rites will be performed at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
