John W Turner

John W. Turner “Uncle Johnny”, 94, of Peru, passed away peacefully at Visiting Nurse Hospice House in Ft. Wayne on Thursday, September 14, 2017. He was born on March 9, 1923 to the late Cecil and Nellie (Copp) Turner.  On July 29, 1943, he married the love of his life, Ocal Marie Fellows and she preceded him in death on June 7, 2005.

Uncle Johnny graduated from Windfall High School in 1943 and enlisted in the Army Air Force, where he served until 1945. Once he returned home he was a farmer in eastern Howard and Miami counties for 15 years before working at Standard Pottery and finally retiring from Haynes Stellite in Kokomo. After his retirement, he went to work at Dillman Furniture and Rent-a-Trailer in Peru. Uncle Johnny volunteered for the American Red Cross for more than 10 years. He was also a member of the Windfall Brethren Church and most recently the Mexico Church of the Brethren.

He is survived by his two loving sisters, Donna Kay Spieler, of Sauk Village, Ill. and Sharon Fay Dillman of Peru and several special nieces and nephews.

He is preceded by a brother, Walter R. Turner; nephew, Daniel D. Dillman and niece, Ann L. Vaughn.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, September 18, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Riverview Funeral Home, 421 West Canal St. in Peru with Pastors Matt Myers and Jeff Copp officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers the family would like memorial donations to go to Visiting Nurse Hospice House, 5910 Homestead Rd. Ft.
