Emilie Hobbs Obituary

Emilie Adele Hobbs, Age 22, Peru, passed away Friday, February 23rd at 11:00 A.M. at the Franciscan Health Lafayette East Hospital from complications due to cardiac arrest while on a training run. 

Emilie was born on April 8, 1995 at Dukes Memorial Hospital in Peru, Indiana. Emilie attended Blair Pointe, Peru Junior High School, and Peru High School during her K-12 years. During this time she participated in Academic Super Bowl, Cross-Country, German Club, Golden Guard, Honor Society, Science Olympiad, Spell Bowl, Tiger Leadership, Track, and as a United Way Representative. After graduating from Peru High School, she attended Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology majoring in Biochemistry and graduating with magna cum laude honors. During this time, she was the recipient of the Manness Scholarship (A Rose-Hulman Chemistry Scholarship.) While at Rose-Hulman, she was a member of the Rose-Hulman Cross-Country Team, Indoor Track Team, and Outdoor Track Team all four years earning Academic All-Conference honors during 10 out of 12 seasons as well as All-Conference in Cross-Country her senior year. Emilie was also a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Academic Fraternity. In addition, she worked as a Tutor at Homework Hotline.

Emilie loved life and was passionate about so many things. She was an avid runner, reader, and movie & music buff. Some of her favorites included Steve Prefontaine, Grete Waitz, Sherlock Holmes, Star Trek, Rick & Morty, and Big Band Music. 

She is survived by her mother, Lisa Hobbs, her father, Andrew Hobbs, and her brother, Erik Hobbs and his significant other, Bianca Sloan (Peru, IN); Emilie’s significant other, Julian Sfeir (Franklin, NJ); grandparents, Barbara Cardwell (Tipton, IN), John Cardwell and Nancy Griffin (Indianapolis, IN); her aunts and uncles, Kim Cardwell (Lafayette, IN), Kathy and Mark Pittenger (Johnson City, TN), Lisa and Sam Weatherford (Terre Haute, IN), Lori Bettancourt (Hollywood, FL), Melanie Longworth and her significant other, Randy Wilder (Kokomo, IN), Paul Cardwell (Tipton, IN), and Tony Hobbs and his significant other, Jackie Azbell (Amboy, IN); her cousins and great cousins, Alaina Rodriguez (Hollywood, FL), Carol Ann, Andy, and Fordham Kennedy (Indianapolis, IN), Chelsea and Cody Mattos (Lafayette, IN), Chris, Jennelle, Zeke, Zander, Zayden and Izzy Weatherford (Columbus, IN), Jackson Rodriguez (Key West, FL), Jake Cardwell (Lafayette, IN), Julie, David, Bella, Grant, Sophia, and Norah Dafforn (Indianapolis, IN), Kirsten, Adam, and Henry Meyer (Lafayette, IN), Natalie and Mia Pittenger (Johnson City, TN), Nick and Jenna Longworth (Kokomo, IN),  Scott and Brianna Weatherford (Danville, IN), Steve, Laura, Ace, Carney, Aurora, JJ, and Goldie Weatherford (Encinitas, CA.), Tiffany, Cole, and Taylor Boruff (Kokomo, IN), Valerie Hobbs (Indianapolis, IN), and Krista Hobbs (Amboy, IN)

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Carol and Tom Hobbs (Tipton, IN), and a cousin, Drew Hobbs (Amboy, IN)

The Celebration of Life will be on Thursday, March 1 from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Riverview Funeral Home, and the Funeral Service will be on Friday, March 2 at 11:00 A.M. at the Riverview Funeral Home, 421 West Canal Street, Peru, IN 46970.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Rose-Hulman Cross-Country and Track Program or the Peru High School Science Olympiad Team.
