Richard E. McConahay

            Richard (Dick) McConahay went to be with the Lord in his heavenly home on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 after battling multiple myeloma for the previous 9 months.  His unwavering faith in his Lord Jesus gave him strength and courage throughout this time and ultimately gave him peace.

Dick was born to the late Bernard (Red) and Nora McConahay on November 16, 1932 in Antwerp, Ohio.  He was married to his loving wife, Connie (Hughes) McConahay, for 43 years.  She survives.

Along with his parents, Dick was preceded in death by brothers Paul (Freda and Mac McManus) McConahay and Larry (Donna Sue) McConahay, and children Nadine and Loyd McConahay.

Dick was blessed with a large, loving family.  Survivors include brothers Daniel (Sharon) McConahay of Van Wert, Ohio and Max McConahay of Hudson, Indiana, along with his sister Donna (Joe Noll) Ringler of Pleasant Lake, Indiana.  His surviving children include Kathleen (Andrew) Smith, Deborah (Jeffery) Saylor, Keith (Michele) McConahay, and Danielle (Robin Manriquez) Hopper all of Peru, Indiana.  He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews, and pets Willy and Coal.

After high school, Richard McConahay went on to serve this great nation in the United States Army during the time of the Korean War.  Following his time of service, Dick worked for the B & O Railroad before owning and operating Claire Lee’s Cake and Pastry Shop in Peru, Indiana with his brother Paul.  He later created Harvey Hinklemeyers in Peru developing original recipes enjoyed by many in Peru, Kokomo, Wabash, and surrounding communities in Indiana.

Along with being a hard-working man and entrepreneur, Dick McConahay was a patriarch to many besides his children.  He was an honest, patient man with a kind and gentle spirit.  He loved the Lord with all his heart, mind, and soul.  He was a storyteller and a teacher at heart who often talked in parables.

Dick was a member of East Pointe Bible Church.  He enjoyed reading and studying the Bible, watching TV, and taking care of his home and yard.  He was a huge sports fan; especially of Notre Dame, the Colts, and Ohio State football.  Camping with family and friends was one of his favorite pastimes. 

Dick was a man that was loved by many.  He was quick to listen, possessed discernment and objectivity, and spoke from true wisdom.  He will be immensely missed by his wife, siblings, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.  A celebration of his life officiated by Jim Butler and funeral services entrusted to Riverview Funeral Home will be held at East Pointe Bible Church, 1540 Paw Paw Pike, Peru, Indiana on April 29, 2017 from 11:00am-1:00pm with a service at 1:00pm. Graveside services accompanied by the Miami County Military Honor Guard will immediately follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru, Indiana.
